Wander Wheels Living | About

Hello! My name is Jessica! For most of my life I lived with pain and fatigue that no one could see. I carried symptoms that were invisible to everyone around me, so I pushed through because I was afraid of judgment. Staying quiet because I did not want to explain myself and my invisible disabilities. I avoided accommodations because I felt like I needed to prove how much I was struggling before I deserved comfort. I tried to look fine even when I was anything but fine.

Everything shifted the day my husband encouraged me to try a mobility scooter. I resisted at first and told him that if I was going to use one, it had to be pink. He promised me he would find one, and he did. That little pink scooter became a turning point in my story. It gave me freedom again and helped me explore the world with less pain and less worry. It reminded me that choosing comfort is not giving up, it is choosing yourself.

Alongside my journey with invisible disabilities, I am also an author. I write children’s books, including the Little Jessie series. In addition I also write nonfiction projects that explore resilience, relationships, and the emotional side of life. Storytelling has always been one of my greatest loves. Writing has given me a way to turn my experiences into something meaningful for others.

Outside of writing, I am a step mom to two wonderful adult daughters. I am also a very proud grandma to two grandsons, Lincoln and Ryker. I married my husband Jesse in 2012, and yes, Jesse and Jessica. Our home is full of love and noise thanks to our three fur babie. Dixie May, our tiny mini dachshund; Charlie, our five pound Chiweenie with a huge personality and his own TikTok; and Max, our very large Chiweenie who believes he is a lap dog.

I love to travel, and I love sports, especially football. I will always cheer loudly for the Vikings. Skol Vikes. I also love concerts, and I am a lifelong Backstreet Boys fan. Music, travel, and joyful experiences have carried me through some of the hardest moments of chronic illness.
